It's The Little Things

I'm now to the stage of planning to leave where I need to actually take care of the "I'll just take care of that right before I leave" things. Today I went to buy a camera to take with me. Amazon.com had the one I wanted for a good price so I went ahead and bought it, but surprisingly, the case which shipped separately, is listed as possibly not arriving before I leave.

Despite the large amount of complaining that I've posted here so far, I am actually quite excited to go. Both my visa, and a "fun" package from the program arrived this past week. It's really hit home that I'll definitely be going, and the more I think about it, the more I realize, that in all likely hood, I'm in for a really great time this next semester.

Getting Ready

In a month's time, I will be somewhere over the Atlantic, on my way to Budapest, to study with Budapest Semesters in Mathematics.
The problem with leaving in a month, is that there's no way I will possibly be ready. More time would most likely not help either. No amount of time could really get me ready. I'm pretty good at relaxing, and letting things happen. For example, I'm willing to find a house based on a vague memory of having been there once before, or end up in a town with an uncertain plan of where I'm sleeping later that night. However, the level of uncertainty about what will happen in a month is overwhelming.
Here is what I don't know:
  1. When (or if) I will get my visa from the Hungarian Consulate
  2. What I will do for my 12 hour layover in Zurich
  3. Who will meet me in Budapest (and where)
  4. Where I will be living for these 100+ days
  5. If I ever will be able to understand any Hungarian
  6. ...
The list could probably go on forever (or at least be added onto continuously for the next month). I guess I'm fine as long as I have some sort of plan, but in this case there's so many unknowns that any plan would completely worthless.

About This Blog

First, a little about myself. I'm a rising Junior math major at SUNY Geneseo, and am attending Budapest Semesters in Mathematics (BSM) this fall. I'll be spending the semester there, and hope to travel, stay in shape for swimming, and enjoy the city in addition to studying a ton of math.

This is a space for me to write down my thoughts so that I have a better chance of remembering everything that happens later on. I also figured that it may end up being a useful resource to a future student, so I decided to post it online.
